About Us

Discover the story behind DELICA SF's commitment to authentic Japanese cuisine.

Our Story

DELICA was founded in 2003 as part of the iconic Ferry Building Marketplace, bringing authentic Japanese cuisine to San Francisco's waterfront. Our goal was to introduce the concept of the Japanese-style deli to the United States, something that is common in Japan but still relatively rare here.

Our name comes from the word "delicatessen", reflecting our deli-style approach to Japanese food. Guided by our philosophy, "Japanese flavors meet California ingredients", we focus on seasonal produce and high-quality ingredients while honoring traditional Japanese cooking techniques.

We celebrate the changing seasons by incorporating fresh, seasonal ingredients into our rotating menu of bento boxes, sushi, and prepared foods.
